Ironic title given that Amber is such a warm material!

This Baltic amber has been smoothed as far as possible to create an organic diamond shape.  Flat backed with an undulating front, there are some cracks and striations that further sanding could have removed but at the expense of patterns within.
 
Each piece of amber is thousands of years in the making and is a little time capsule - though I can't make out any insects in this piece (with my untrained eye) it looks like there are pine needles? Shell? You could spend hours guessing at its contents.

Pierced with a hand made sterling silver bail and hung on an Italian 925 silver chain of 18 inches (9 inch drop), fastened with a 925 silver lobster clasp.
